Dependent Child

Description

Identifies whether an individual is a dependent child or not. A dependent child is a person aged 0 to 15 in a household (whether or not in a family) or aged 16 to 18 in full-time education and living in a family with his or her parent(s) or grandparent(s). Dependent children does not include any children who have a spouse, partner or child living in the household. This variable applies to all people living in households. As such, it reports 'No code required' for the subset of the population living in communal establishments.
